The 1996 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport

The C4 generation of Corvette was the result of Chevrolet’s goal to produce a capable sports car, both for handling and speed. The Grand Sport was the special edition marking the end of the production run for this chassis, available only in the Admiral Blue with a white stripe, with just 810 of these coupes produced. Equipped as standard with the LT4 5.7-liter V8 producing 330 hp and a six-speed manual transmission, the Grand Sport in particular was built to enthusiast spec. As a farewell salute, the GS represents the last version of the C4 chassis.

This two-owner 1996 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport coupe is finished in Admiral blue with a white center stripe, and the Grand Sport red fender stripes, with the combination Torch Red and Black interior and presents today in like new condition.

The first owner of this Grand Sport bought it from a dealer in Millington, Michigan. The car would remain in its first owner’s private collection until 2019 when it was sold to a dealer who subsequently sold the car to its current owner and seller.

With only 387 miles from new, this is in as-new condition, and is all original except for the wheels and tires – a second set was purchased to be driven on, while the original wheels and OEM Goodyear Eagle GS-C’s are still with the car, and are included in the sale. Everything that this car came with from the factory is still, right down to the original oil filter, saved for posterity after a fluid and filter refresh at the time of purchase.

After a 12 year long run, the C4 Corvette chassis had benefitted from a steady and consistent improvement, culminating in this Grand Sport edition. It’s a genuinely good sports car on its own merits, and represented GM’s genuine effort to keep the Corvette level with its competition. At this late date it would be very hard to find another example in this kind of condition, not only by mileage, but by the comprehensive refresh undertaken by the seller to make it ready for use, if desired.

Exterior

As a last year of production for the C4, this Grand Sport edition was one of 1000 produced, featuring the special color, black 17 inch five spoke wheels, and the red and white stripes. The body featured the updated front and rear fascia that all Corvettes received in 1991, first featured on the ZR-1 version in 1990.

Interior

The interior in Torch Red is a real eye catcher. Thanks to the clear plastic covers that the car was delivered with still being there, they are still in brand new condition, with no wear or color fade. The electronic dash and controls are fully functional, as are the electric power seats.

Drive Train

The Grand Sport features Chevrolet’s LT4 350 ci V8 with 330HP, and 340 lb-ft of torque.  Standard equipment also included the six speed manual transmission. This combination was an option available on all Corvettes for the 1996 model year but came standard on the Gran Sport. The 17” black five spoke wheels mounted to the car are shoed with Toyo Extreme XP tires in 275/40-17 front, and 315/35-17 rear.
