1999 Ferrari 355 F1 Spider ‘Serie Fiorano’

In 1995 the Ferrari F355 Spider made its debut after a total of 1800 hours of wind tunnel testing by Ferrari and Pininfarina. While 1300 hours was spent testing the Berlinetta model that preceded it, an additional 500 hours was spent on the Spider. All of this was necessary to produce a convertible with almost the same performance as the closed car.

With belt-driven dual overhead camshafts and hydraulic tappets, the 3,496cc engine remains quiet up to its redline of 8,500 RPM. The aluminum block V8 is capable of 375hp with 268lb/ft of torque. The 180-degree crankshaft produces equal firing intervals on each cylinder bank which makes for perfect exhaust timing. The firing order is more similar to two straight-fours than the typical V8 arrangement of for V-twins. Because of this the F355 makes a sound like no other Ferrari.

Extensive aerodynamic testing and chassis tuning mean the F355 is able to use the enormous power produced by its engine. With an electronically managed variable shock-absorber allows the driver to control the system from the cockpit. The system reads data from its various sensors to adjust the damping forces in order to control wheel movement. This results in an extremely well-balanced suspension that is as good at high-speed as it is driving around town. The TRW power-steering system provides a level of feel and control that is vastly improved over the earlier manual steering of its predecessors.

In 1999 Ferrari produced a limited production run of F355 Spider models dubbed “Serie Fiorano”. Launched at the 1999 Geneva Auto Show, the limited production run of 100 planned units included performance enhancements that would take its track performance closer to that of the Ferrari Challenge versions. The features of the Serie Fiorano cars included a Competizione derived Fiorano suspension pack with wide track, stiffer springs and a lowered ride height. A stouter anti-roll bar, cross-drilled, ventilated disc brakes and competition brake pads in red calipers were added, as well as a Competizione sourced steer rack. The cars had Challenge rear grilles, enameled Scuderia Ferrari shields and an optional suede covered steering wheel along with a multitude of carbon fiber elements featured on the center console and door sills among others.

The 100 Serie Fiorano units produced were delivered to the US market equipped with a power top, power windows, air conditioning, radio with CD player and power assisted steering added to the competition style steering setup. The total production was expanded to include an additional four units including three for the European market and one with South African delivery. The US market units were delivered with a numbered plaque attached to the dash.

Originally delivered to California in August of 1999, the first owner registered the car in November of that year. The Serie Fiorano then made its way to New Hampshire where a new owner registered it in 2001. After changed hands several times the car was purchased by the current owner in 2019. A complete Carfax with service history is included with the sale and is available for review. This 1999 Ferrari 355 F1 Spider ‘Serie Fiorano’ is truly a special car. Number 63 out of 100 produced in beautiful Grigio Titanio with a black leather interior. A Ferrari convertible with the performance of a track car, this limited edition F355 is a must have for any Ferrari collector.

The exterior of the car is in excellent original condition. It shows some signs of use but has obviously been very well cared for. There is one small scrape in the paint on the passenger side below the door, but this could easily be touched up. The top is in excellent condition and shows no flaws or issues. The tonneau cover is also in excellent condition.

Much like the exterior, the interior has been extremely well maintained with only slight evidence of use. The leather is in very good condition and is quite striking against the Grigio Titanio body color.

Engine and Drive Train

The car has been regularly serviced. The clutch was replaced less than 500 miles ago. The engine bay appears clean and well maintained with no obvious issues or leaks.

Trunk and Storage Compartment

The trunk appears as new with little to no signs of use. The carpet appears clean and almost if not as new.

The underside of the car is clean and shows no leaks. It shows normal signs of use.

Documentation and Spares

The car comes with the original owner’s manuals and sleeve.
