2004 Ferrari 360 Modena

Named in honor of the birthplace of Enzo Ferrari and the home of the legendary firm bearing his name, the 360 Modena marked a clear new direction for the company’s road cars following company President Luca di Montezemolo’s call for a Ferrari engineered for the rigors of real world driving. It also heralded Ferrari’s partnership with Alcoa on an entirely new aluminum space-frame chassis, 40 per cent stronger  than that of the outgoing F355. Styled by Pininfarina and launched for 1999, the new 360 Modena was cloaked in purposefully aggressive aluminum bodywork shaped during some 5,400 hours of wind-tunnel testing. Powered by a 400-hp, all-alloy DOHC 3,586 cc V-8 engine with five valves per cylinder, 11:1 compression, and electronic fuel injection, the 360 initially utilized a six-speed manual gearbox and then included an exclusive F1-derived Magnetti-Marelli unit with paddle controls. At once lighter, more powerful, more aerodynamic, and offering greater downforce than the F355, the 360 generated lap times at the Fiorano test track some three seconds under those generated by its highly regarded predecessor. Delivering stunning performance, the 360 Modena was universally praised and inaugurated a new era at Ferrari, profoundly influencing its successors.

This Ferrari features many rare and excellent, factory-specified features. It is said when the car was originally ordered that it was a one of one 360 Modena with the following specifications which makes it an extremely rare example of this already rare performance car. Black paint (PPG Code Nero DS 1250) over Rosso (Red) leather upholstery with Black (Nero 152) and Silver accents clothe this 2004 Ferrari 360 Modena Berlinetta. The factory specified classically gated 6-speed manual gearbox and other options including Red brake calipers (CALR), a Challenge rear grille (GRD1), front “Challenge Style grilles (GRD2), ‘Scuderia Ferrari’ front-fender shields (LOGO), modular wheels (RIM1), large racing seats with Connolly leather upholstery (RSL1), a leather headliner (RUF1), leather rear shelf/door mould (SHF2), a high power Hi-Fi stereo with subwoofer (SND1), and coloured special stitching (STC2) make this unique 360 Modena a “challenge” car for the street. A Ferrari dealer printout of this Modena’s factory data and option codes accompanies this very well equipped example, which was produced during November 2003 and placed into service on December 24, 2003 before being officially sold to the first owner on January 6, 2004.

The Ferrari was sold new in California and remained there with its first three personal owners through late 2015, followed by the current owner, who retitled and relocated the Modena in May 2016. Mileage, service, and maintenance from new is progressively tracked by the clean Carfax vehicle-history report accompanying the vehicle, supported by service records and parts invoices dating from January 2012. Just 10,656 actual miles have been covered at the time of writing. In summary, this 2004 Ferrari 360 Modena is a high-quality example of the most influential modern V-8 Ferrari model in rare colors, with the coveted 6-speed manual gearbox and abundant factory options.

Exterior

This Modena features factory-specified Nero (Black) paint over an unmodified and undamaged body. Paint is protected with clear bra material on the hood and in select areas of the body. Factory-optional “360 Challenge” grilles and model emblems are all present and proper. ‘Scuderia Ferrari’ shields are originally specified options, adorning both front fenders. Wheels are correct-type, shod with Pirelli tires, supplemented by a clean and valuable set of 360 Challenge wheels mounting proper Pirelli tires.

Interior

The interior is as originally optioned from the factory, being very inviting, attractive, and unmodified. Nero (Black) carpets are as originally specified from the factory. Gauges, controls, and accessories are all as originally equipped, including the factory-optional High-Power Hi-Fi head unit. Upholstery, including the optional racing-type seats, looks great and reveals little, if any, wear.

Engine and Drive Train

A proper mid-mounted 3.6-liter DOHC EFI V-8 powers the Modena and remains unmodified, complete, and correctly presented. Both the 400-horsepower (factory rating) engine and surrounding engine compartment are clean, correct, unmuddied and visually appealing, signifying proper care and pride of ownership. Power delivery is via the driver-preferred, classically  gated 6-speed manual gearbox/transaxle at the rear of the vehicle.

Trunk and Storage Compartment

The front trunk/storage compartment is consistent with the rest of the vehicle, being clean, correct in appearance, and unmodified. Correct factory-original items there include the factory-issued books and manuals in their proper leather document folio, tool rolls in correct leather storage pouches, and the roadside jack and wheel tools are kept inside a correct canvas roll with leather straps.

Documentation and Spares

In addition to a clean Carfax report progressively documenting delivery, service, ownership, title, and prior California emissions-testing history, the Modena includes service and parts invoices since January 2012. A Ferrari dealer printout confirms the Modena’s original data, warranty dates, colors, and factory options. An additional set of 360 Challenge-type BBS modular alloy wheels mounts a set of Pirelli tires and is included with the sale of the vehicle.
