2018 BMW M6 GT3 Race Car
Using the many lessons learned from its highly successful Z4 GT3 racing program, BMW’s legendary ‘M’ Motorsport division introduced the M6 GT3, internally designated Type F13, as its top factory-built competition car at the September 2015 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show. Featuring extensive carbon fiber structures, the M6 GT3 is extremely strong and light, weighing in at under 1,300 kilograms (2,860 lbs.). Massive power is delivered by a special development of the M6 Type S63 DOHC 4.4-liter V-8 engine with dry-sump lubrication and the BMW ‘M’ Motorsport division’s proprietary TwinPower Turbo technology, good for up to 585 factory-rated horsepower. Almost immediately, the prowess of the M6 GT3 was confirmed with victory at the world-famous 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps endurance classic in July 2016.
Competition success of the M6 GT3 is very strong, with these all-out GT-class racing cars having scored 12 wins plus 19 second place finishes and 18 third place podiums so far from the 2015 racing season to date. Circuits contested include the Nürburgring (Germany), Paul Ricard (France), Barcelona (Spain), Monza (Italy), Silverstone (Great Britain), Fuji (Japan), Misano (Japan), Hungaroring (Hungary), Daytona (USA), and Buriram (Thailand ), with the M6 GT3’s stellar front-line racing career very much still in force.
Bearing Chassis Number 1621 and powered by Engine Number 228, this 2018 BMW M6 GT3 carries excellent competition provenance. Almost immediately, it finished 2nd overall at the fourth round of the 2018 Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup, the July 2018 edition of the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, with racing number 99 under the ROWE Racing banner and co-driven by Alexander Sims (GB), Jens Klingmann (D), and Nicky Catsburg (NL). Among their many career achievements, Sims drove an M6 GT3 26 times, Klingmann 61 times, and Catsburg 29 times so far according to the excellent www.racingsportscars.com website’s records. In November 2018, our subject vehicle, Chassis 1621, was acquired by the current owner and exported to the United States, where it was campaigned during the 2019 and 2020 racing seasons at Road America, the Circuit of the Americas, and Virginia International Raceway under BMW of San Francisco sponsorship.
Exterior
Finished in White with Blue, Red, and Black BMW ‘M’ Motorsport livery plus BMW of San Francisco sponsorship graphics, BMW M6 GT3 Number 1621 is a stunning example with its competition specification, prominent front and rear spoilers, and totally businesslike presence. Center-lock racing wheels and competition-spec tires provide rolling stock.
Interior
The competition-ready interior compartment features a large racing bucket seat, racing harness, safety gear, and an A-P Racing control panel and carbon fiber steering wheel. Both 2019 and 2020 inspection stickers issued by the SRO Motorsport Group/USAC are affixed to the car’s roll cage. The ATL competition fuel cell is rated ‘good’ through July 2021.
Engine and Drive Train
Numbered 228, the Type P63 twin-turbo V-8 engine appears ready to race, mated to a full-competition 6-speed sequential Ricardo gearbox and rear transaxle for exceptional balance. The engine currently has 9,100.273 kilometers on the clock and the gearbox has been used for 907.103 kilometers. A set of AP Racing brakes contributes to the superior performance of this impressive race car.
Documentation and Spares
A binder with purchase and service records compiled by Mr. Schmitt will be included with purchase. To view an on-board video of the M6 on track at Circuit of the America's, please click here, https://youtu.be/JorKqbp-R74.
